The Greek word PANGAEA means "all-Earth" and this is an appropriate name for the Expedition as it will travel to all continents, including the North Pole and Antarctica. The aim of the Pangaea mission is to enhance a respect for the environment and encourage the clean-up of the planet and the protection of its resources for the sake of future generations. There will be 144 youth at the various stages accompanying Mike Horn as he travels to the different world destinations and they will assist in the establishment of environmental sustainability projects
Geberit, highly respect for environment makes it be the one of the three sponsors, will participate in the project via specific initiatives to renovate the sanitation systems of schools, hospitals and other social units along the Pangaea route.
“Pangaea” is coming to Shanghai in September 2010. Geberit will take this opportunity to organize 2-days activities to deliver environmental message with Mike Horn.

We are proud to be a part of this great project and to help improve the everyday lives of many people. There are many reasons for Geberit's participation. The three most important ones:
Our confidence in Mike Horn and his team
Mike Horn and his team have gained our confidence as a result of the expertise, know-how, experience and knowledge that they have gained over many years and have put to the test under extraordinary and extreme conditions.
Water and hygiene
Water is our subject. More than 40 percent of the world's population today has neither clean drinking water nor sanitary facilities. Their absence accounts for the death of a child every twenty seconds. Geberit wants to use this initiative to contribute to the building or renovation of sanitary systems in schools and other institutions along the Pangaea route, and thus also to improve the lives of many children.
Education and training
We want to educate people around the globe in the efficient handling of fresh water, instruct them in the installation of sanitary systems as well as school them in the subject of hygiene. We also want to include our own employees in these activities.
Geberit has held events for clients and media representatives in various cities leading up to the actual Pangaea expedition. On the occasion of these gatherings on the Pangaea ship, our guests were introduced to Mike Horn and learned more about the project.

Researcher Mike Horn is practically a living legend in the field of extreme sports. Born in South Africa, Horn has attracted the attention of the entire world as an adventurer with his grand, spectacular expeditions. But his primary motivation has not been simply the excitement of it all, not even at the start of his career 16 years ago: instead he has carried out his projects in the conviction and the belief that he could make a difference in our world. He sees tomorrow's future in the young people of today and that is the reason he wishes to support them.
The man, who studied kinesiology and sports, has already crisscrossed the South American continent and traveled 40,200 kilometers along the equator around the world in 18 months - all without motorized support and only on the power of pure strength and determination. He was also the first person to navigate along the entire Arctic Circle alone, without interruption and without motorized transport. In another project he and legendary Norwegian Arctic explorer Borge Ousland walked to the North Pole during the polar night of the Arctic winter.
Mike Horn has a simple philosophy to explain his extraordinary achievements:"The impossible exists only until we find a way to make it possible."
Geberit is also convinced of this, which is the reason Geberit is setting an example through its collaboration with Mike Horn. It is not impossible to change something in the world - but it only works if someone is actively searching for a path to the solution. Geberit and Mike Horn want to lead the way with a good example - hand in hand. |
